Christian Bréchot

Christian Bréchot holds MD and PhD degrees. In 1989 he became full professor of Cell Biology and Hepatology, and in 1997 he was appointed head of the clinical department of liver diseases at the Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital. He has been in charge of a research unit at the Necker Faculty of Medicine, jointly supported by Inserm (the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research), Paris Descartes University, and the Institut Pasteur.
From 2001 to 2007, Christian Bréchot has been General Director of Inserm.
From 2008 to 2013, he has been Vice-president in charge of Medical and Scientific affairs of the Institut-Mérieux company.
From 2013 to 2017, he has been the President of Institut Pasteur.
He is now an Emeritus Professor at the Paris Descartes University, Full Professor at the South Florida University and Executive Director of the Romark Company Institute for Medical Research (Tampa, Florida). He is also acting as President of the Global Virus Network (Baltimore, USA) and a chair Professor at Zhejiang University (Hangzhou) and Honorary Professor at Jiao-Tong (Shanghai) and China Medical University (Shenyang) Universities in China.
